Tell us about your business:
We're a husband and wife team that operate two restaurants and a specialty foods market on part of a block on South Main Street. We opened Lark in 2017 with a focus on internationally inspired, seasonal dishes, and craft cocktails in casual yet elegant setting. Lark Market opened two doors down in 2020, featuring a curated selection of wines from around the world, entrees to heat and eat from Lark's kitchen, spirits, cocktail supplies, cheese, charcuterie, Jeni's ice cream, frozen pizzas from Salvatore's Tomato Pies, and more. Sandwich Bar, which opened in late 2021, is a casual spot for creative, gourmet sandwiches, beer, and cocktails that serves both lunch and dinner in a fun, mural-filled space. With all of our businesses, we are focused on superior quality, creativity, and service.
Why did you choose to locate downtown?
A healthy downtown is essential to a growing, thriving community. We were fortunate to get involved in the early stages of what's been an exciting renaissance in downtown Janesville. We also believe it's important to preserve the historic architecture of downtown as it brings character and beauty to dining and shopping experiences.
What's the best thing about being downtown?
We love seeing people walking around, enjoying the riverfront, parks, shops, events, bars and restaurants. We love talking with them and helping them discover new food and spirits. It's a feeling of growing excitement and discovery downtown. The best thing, though, may be the friendships we've made with business owners downtown, who have truly created a supportive community.
